European Union and international cooperation
The National Archives of Latvia operates in various European Union institutions related to the field of archives:
- In the Council of European National Archivists - a collegial institution of the heads of the national archives of the EU Member States;
- The European Archives Expert Group - consists of experts from Member States and EU institutions;
- DLM Forum - an institution dealing with electronic document management issues.

International Council on Archives
Higher professional organization, which unites the archives of the whole world is the International Council on Archives. The International Council on Archives has more than 1,600 members from 190 countries. Its mission is to promote the management and use of documents and archives, the preservation of the documentary heritage of mankind, by sharing experience, research, ideas on professional issues of archiving and document management, management and organization of archival institutions. The National Archives of Latvia is also represented in the International Council of Archives.
